Discrimination Resolution Passes
The council passed a discrimination resolution - but it isn't the county's NDO.
The town council approved a resolution that basically says the board is against “all forms of discrimination” during the April 18 meeting.
This resolution is not connected to the Wake County Non-Discrimination Ordinance. The county ordinance passed in 2021 and went into effect in February 2022. It gives anyone who feels they are being discriminated against a chance to file a complaint that could lead to non-legal mediation.
Holly Springs is one of a few towns in Wake County that didn’t sign it. This story from ABC 11 gives context on the town’s position.
The resolution was introduced by Councilman Dan Berry with the support of much of the council. Councilman Aaron Wolff supported the resolution but feels it doesn’t go go far enough to help often marginalized people.
In fairness to the council members, I am sharing full discussion.
The resolution passed unanimously.
But Jack, who spoke during the public comment period, requested the town pass support for pride month in June (something that didn’t happen in 2022). This statement was edited down.
