The first step to putting a $100 million bond on the November ballot passed during the April 18 town council meeting.
The council voted to apply for a bond. The bond, if passed by voters, will go towards the construction of the Cass Holt Park and renovation at some of the other area parks. Parks and Rec director LeeAnn Plummer shared the needs with this slide:
So the next big question is how much will our taxes go up if the bond passes. Per the town, we will learn that during the May meeting.
Right now, property tax owners pay 42 cents per $100. For a $200,000 piece of property that comes to $840 per year in taxes (this excludes Wake County taxes).
As I said this is just the first step which does include public hearings this summer.
Wake County Commissioner Matt Calabria did announce a $2.4 million grant to go towards the new park.
If you are interested in learning more about what could be at the new park, there’s a virtual meeting on April 27.
